shark fishing

This week the surf has been a bit high but very fish-able, and as the water temperature rises up the fishing will only heat up also. We are entering the leading edge of the pompano and blacktip migration.

For the pompano and whiting shrimp, fish bites, fresh clams have been the hot bait of choice now those that work at finding sand fleas have been able to find enough to fish with. Running multiple rods to start with and fishing them at different levels in the water column until the fish are located and once you dostay with them. A standard pompano rig with either beads or floats will be the best choice. A mix of small mackerel and bluefish have been along with the whiting and pompano.

Should you choose to target sharks remember to take the free online shark course. Bluefish, cut whiting, and any other oily fish is working best for them. As the migration moves into the area the sharks will be willing to take large tuna poppers and pencil plugs on the surface. So if you looking to catch some large fish and possibly multiples in a single day this is the time to do so.

If your interested in putting your surf fishing skills to the test there is the surf fishing challenge presented by Roy Mattson the tournament is scheduled for March 25th meeting at lost lagoon and fishing day March 26th.
